LAKE FOREST, CA, OCTOBER 2019 – Many say your memories of past events center upon the highlights creating nostalgia and in truth they were not as great as you remember. While this may be true for birthdays and honeymoons, the original cars and coffee (well if you don't count Crystal Cove) really was everything you remember… and more!
On September 30th a special one-time reunion of the 2006-2014 era format returned as a fundraiser benefiting GRIP, an organization dedicated to diverting at-risk youth from the allure of gang life. Though the threat of rain and its eventual downpour may have kept some away, those that braved the weather were treated to all the fabulous sights and sounds of yesteryear.
Mingling in the crowds, one was overwhelmed by the immediate feeling of homecoming. Some mentioned the dreary weather matched the slight pain of melancholy - it was not hard to slip into thinking we were all mourning an old friend. But this quickly dissipated as you began encountering all the familiar faces. Young, old, and everywhere in between were joyously recounting the past as if it were one giant family reunion. A family reunion wrought with the typical industry insiders from every level of the automotive world (“Is that Ant Anstead and Mike Brewer of Wheeler Dealer?”), all casually ogling over cars.
And what cars! Highlights included a genuine 1962 Ferrari 250 SWB California Spyder, 1956 Alfa Romeo 1600 Zagato, 1958 Ferrari 250 Tour de France, unrestored 1965 Shelby GT350, 1967 Ford GT40 MKIV, 1991 Mazda 767B Le Mans Prototype, 1964 Porsche 904 GTS, 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo, and Competition Prepped 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing to name a few. Organized according to national heritage, CAM Inc. supported the Cars of Britain with their 1967 MGC GTS Works Prototype and 1962 Jaguar E-Type Evolved Lightweight.
