LAKE FOREST, CA, FEBRUARY 2020 – When Volvo Cars of Sweden decided on a global basis to add the finishing touch to their wheels on their new line of Polestar electric vehicles, they came to Camisasca Automotive Manufacturing Inc. for a highly visible piece of jewelry for this hallmark vehicle.
With a supply program to over 40 other OEM vehicle manufacturers and over 25 years of experience in design, production, and supply of valve stem dust covers, CAM, Inc. was the natural choice for the creation this special, high quality Polestar style cap.
The design not only needed to complement the beautiful design of the vehicle, but also meet rigorous engineering requirements to withstanding years of exterior use and compatibility with the tire pressure monitor valves (TMPS valves) on these OEM wheels and tires. During development, Volvo Car Group Sweden requested that cap be composed of a lightweight alloy material with an extremely durable gold accent finish.
These unique design requirements were not out of realm for CAM Inc. as we had recently launched our newly patented design of a Lightweight Alloy/ABS Tire Valve Stem Cap. This design introduced the concept of an ABS “thread shield” incorporated into an aluminum body of the cap, allowing for full compatibility with OEM wheel valves. The ABS “thread shield” creates a barrier between the alloy cap body and the alloy/metal TMPS valves, thus eliminating the risk of cap seizure due to a galvanic reaction of similar or dis-similar metals. Additionally, the lightweight aluminum design addressed engineering concerns of radio signal interference and wheel balancing issues, issues often associated with other inferior metal valve stem covers.
The results of this collaboration and CAM Inc.’s expertise in this area has resulted in what we believe is one of the finest looking valve stem caps that has ever been displayed and featured on a new vehicle. We are proud to have been chosen as a direct supplier to the Polestar vehicle program, and we look forward to the future success of this unique finishing touch to their beautiful engineered and made vehicle.
